IN-SCHOOL MENTORSHIP BASED PROGRAM

Fostering changemaker and vocational skills while increasing school engagement for primary and secondary students

Commissioned by the Minister of Education, Girl MOVE Academy co-developed and piloted a disruptive in-school mentorship program to foster vocational and changemaker skills.

KEY INNOVATION PRINCIPLES

From
mentors to
positive role
models

The program provides targeted training and continuous support so they can cultivate the skills, essential to being positive roles models.

From
mentees-centered
approach to
reciprocal growth

We redefined traditional mentoring by creating a reciprocal model where both mentors and mentees grow together, each taking on the roles of both master and apprentice.

From
self-deployment
to community
transformation

Mentors and mentees recognize how they can contribute to community development and envision themselves as agents of change.

HOW IT WORKS

Weekly after-school sessions where secondary students serve as mentors and reference models to 6th grade.

Mentors are organized in pairs and follow a self-led program to develop skills and prepare the mentorship sessions

Each school has a coordinator teacher of the program, trained to mobilize the students and conduct the program along the year.

A single gamified handbook with two tailored curricula for both mentors and mentees to enhance their learning experience.

The program ends with an event organized by the students to impact the school community.

Mobile-based and gamified implementation guide for school teachers, enabling scability.
